Employee Sustains Injuries In Fall From Platform

Employee #1 works for a company engaging in laundry services and attempted to remove a hanger that appeared to have caused a jam in the conveyor system. Employee #1 was standing on a mezzanine at the time, attempting to remove the problematic hanger when she somehow lost her balance and fell through an opening on the mezzanine to the floor. There were machinery and equipment located at the mezzanine where employees can easily gain access to by ladder. The mezzanine was approximately 10 ft high and not completely guarded with adequate railings at the time. Employee #1 stated that she had gotten up to remove hangers at the mezzanine numerous times before the accident. The jam occurred on an average of two-to-three times per shift and, when a jam occur, it must be corrected right away to avoid further delay to the production. Employee #1 sustained bruises, contusions and abrasions and was hospitalized.
