Employee dies of burns after welding explosion

On August 20, 1996, Employee #1, a mechanic at U.S. Auto Pawn, Henderson, NV, was welding a vehicle in the car lot when an explosion occurred. Between 70 and 80 percent of his body was engulfed in flames when gasoline began spitting out on him. Employee #1 suffered second- and third-degree burns and he was transported to University Medical Center's burn care unit. He died on August 27, 1997 from complications of his injuries.
