Investigation Summary

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 30, 1998, Employee #1, an electrician for a greater metropolitan aircraft manufacturer, was working above the drop ceiling in the cockpit section of the fuselage. She was standing on a 6 foot fiberglass step ladder, working from the third step. For reasons she cannot recall, Employee #1 started down the ladder. On the way down, she fell backward, fracturing her left femur. Employee #1 does not recall what caused her to fall. The step ladder was in good condition and neither the rungs nor the temporary flooring were slippery. The employee was facing the ladder during the descent and does not recall having anything in her hand. Employees working in the area corroborated the employee's reconstruction of the accident. The ladder remained standing after the fall.
