Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 300613213
Event: 12/24/1996
EMPLOYEE DIED FROM HEART ATTACK AT WORK

At 12:30 p.m. on December 24, 1996, Employee #1, a commercial painter who worked for Hudson Shatz Painting Co., Inc. collapsed and could not be revived at the worksite while he was carrying painting materials in a stairwell. The apparent cause of death was a heart attack. Some oil painting had taken place in the stairwell during the morning in which he participated, but he then went on to paint using water based paint on the ceilings from 9:30 a.m. on, so solvent exposure was not excessive. The worksite location was an eight-story building located at 49 East 52nd Street in New York City, New York.
