Investigation Summary
Employee #1 was part of an 11-man asphalt paving crew. They had finished work and were moving an asphalt material transfer vehicle. This is a mobile self-propelled machine designed to transfer hot asphalt material from an unloading truck into the paving machine hopper. The operator was moving the vehicle from the left to the right lane when he ran over Employee #1, killing him. The asphalt material transfer machine is 56 ft 4 in. long and the operator's station is 11 ft 9 in. above ground level.
