Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 14297493
Event: 06/20/1985
Employee dies of heart attack after being struck by hoist

Employee #1 was attempting to place a scrap tag on a defective van at a shuttle transfer point on line J. The line was stopped when he entered the transfer point area (the location where vans are moved from one shuttle to another by a computer-operated electric hoist), but it started again while he was standing at the transfer point. When the hoist moved into position at the transfer point, it struck Employee #1 and knocked him into the shuttle. He was seen climbing out of the shuttle before he passed out. Employee #1 was examined at the scene by the company doctor and was found to have suffered a massive heart attack. He was pronounced dead at Francis Scott Key Medical Center.
