BURNED BY HOT ROOFING TAR

EMPLOYEE #1 HAD POURED A BUCKET OF HOT ROOFING TAR INTO THE HOPPER OF A MIXING MACHINE. THE TAR WAS TO BE MIXED WITH VERMICULITE FOR USE IN ROOFING. HE TURNED AND STEPPED OFF THE 18 1/4" HIGH WORK PLATFORM HE HAD BEEN STANDING ON AND PUT HIS LEFT FOOT INTO A 14" HIGH, 5 GALLON BUCKET OF HOT TAR (460 DEGREES). UNKNOWN TO HIM, ANOTHER EMPLOYEE HAD PLACED THE BUCKET OF TAR BEHIND HIM. HE SUFFERED SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS TO HIS TOES, FOOT, ANKLE AND LOWER LEG.
