Investigation Nr: 823161
Event: 06/30/1987
Employee suffers head trauma in fall through skylight

Employee #1, a temporary laborer, was working for a roofing company. His assignment was to help rip off old roofing materials from an 81 ft wide by 145 ft long roof that had 32 skylights. As he was pulling off a piece of the roof material, it tore, and he fell backward 28 ft through a 4 ft by 4 ft 1/8 in. thick acrylic skylight to a concrete floor. Employee #1 suffered massive head trauma and was hospitalized. The skylights had never been replaced on the approximately 21-year-old building.
