EMPLOYEE'S LEG FRACTURED WHEN STRUCK BY TREE TRUNK

AT A SITE CLEARING OPERATION EMPLOYEE #1 WAS CUTTING A STUMP FROM A TREE PREVIOUSLY KNOCKED DOWN, UPROOTED AND PUSHED TO THE SIDE. WHEN EMPLOYEE #1 CUT THROUGH THE TRUNK, IT SPRANG TOWARDS HIM, KNOCKING HIM BACKWARDS. HE FELL OVER A PIECE OF TIMBER. AS HE WAS LYING ON THE GROUND THE TREE TRUNK FELL ONTO HIS RIGHT LEG, BREAKING IT IN TWO PLACES. EMPLOYEE #1 HAS CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE IN THE USE OF A CHAIN SAW AND IN THE CUTTING OF TIMBER.
