Investigation Summary
A POWER LINE WORKER WAS WORKING ON A WOODEN UTILITY POLE. HIS RIGHT SHOULDER CONTACTED A 7200-VOLT OVERHEAD POWER LINE WHILE HIS RIGHT LEG WAS IN CONTACT WITH THE NEUTRAL CONDUCTOR ON THE POLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS WITNESSED BY THE EMPLOYEE'S SUPERVISOR AND BY A COWORKER. THEY INITIATED POLE-TOP RESCUE PROCEDURES AND LOWERED THE INJURED EMPLOYEE TO THE GROUND USING A BLOCK AND TACKLE HOOKED TO HIS BODY BELT. THE INJURED EMPLOYEE WAS TRANSPORTED BY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES TO A HOSPITAL, WHERE HE DIED OF HIS INJURIES 10 DAYS LATER.
