ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU CABLE

AN EMPLOYEE WAS INSTALLING A TEMPORARY TELEPHONE SERVICE TO A CUSTOMER BY LAYING 600 YARDS OF TELEPHONE CABLE ALONG A REMOTE ROAD. HE WAS TOSSING THE CABLE OVER VEGETATION, INCLUDING SOME TREES, USING A WEIGHT SECURED TO THE END OF THE TELEPHONE LINE. THE CABLE LANDED ON A 1500-VOLT OVERHEAD POWER LINE, AND THE WEIGHT AND THE TELEPHONE LINE BECAME ENTANGLED WITH THE POWER LINE. THE EMPLOYEE WAS ELECTROCUTED WHEN HE CUT THE TELEPHONE CABLE WITH A PAIR OF PLIERS.
