Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 603100
Event: 07/31/1991
Employee drowns in homeowner's swimming pool

At about 10:00 a.m., the employer and Employee #1, a carpenter's helper, arrived at the worksite of a home being remodeled. They installed two power ventilators on the roof of the house, had lunch, and at 1:00 p.m. started working in the house. At approximately 3:00 p.m., the employer went to the store for supplies and told Employee #1 to remove the crown molding, take down the sheetrock, and remove the wainscoting in the room being remodeled. According to the homeowner, when he and his wife left the house at approximately 3:30 p.m., Employee #1 had not started working in the room. The air conditioning was on and a large ceiling fan was in the room as well. The employer and the homeowner arrived back at the house shortly after 5:00 p.m. and could not find the employee. They searched the house and found his body in the deep end of the swimming pool. There were no witnesses to the accident.
