Investigation Nr: 601815
Event: 02/01/1989
Employee dies in fall from shelving

Employee #1, a temporary laborer from Gale Porter, was assigned to install/remove graters on steel structured shelving that was 38 ft wide by 200 ft long by 18 ft high. He was one of five men on the crew from Gale Porter to report to the superintendent of R. B. Curlin for assignment. Employee #1 had gone to the top of the shelving to help remove grates to be moved to another area. Apparently, he had removed three corners and was removing the fourth corner when he stepped on the edge of a grate and fell 18 ft to the concrete floor. He was hospitalized on February 1, 1989, and died the following day.
