EMPLOYEE KILLED WHEN TRAPPED IN CASINO FIRE

AT APPROXIMATELY 3:30 PM ON DECEMBER 31, 1986, EMPLOYEE #1, A U.S. SECRET SERVICE AGENT, WAS INVESTIGATING THE USE OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY IN THE DUPONT PLAZA HOTEL CASINO. A FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE SOUTH BALLROOM AND, IN TEN MINUTES, SWEPT THROUGH THE BALLROOM LOBBY AND CASINO. SOME HOTEL GUESTS AND EMPLOYEES MANAGED TO ESCAPE FROM THE CASINO, BUT OTHERS, INCLUDING EMPLOYEE #1, WERE TRAPPED IN THE CASINO AND DIED.
