Investigation Summary

At 12:00 a.m. on October 16, 2024, Employee #1, employed by Staff Zone, was riding on a trailer being towed by a pickup truck operated by a Sanders Brothers Construction Co. employee. The trailer was occupied by three Staff Zone employees. The pickup truck was traveling southbound in the outside lane, while a Sanders Brothers service truck was traveling southbound within the lane closure and median area following asphalt paving work. The driver of the pickup and trailer initiated a U-turn to go northbound across the lane closure and median, in front of the approaching service truck. During the maneuver, the service truck struck the midsection of the pickup and trailer. The impact caused Employee #1 to be ejected from the trailer. All three employees on the trailer were transported to the hospital by emergency medical services for injury treatment. Employee #1 later died from injuries sustained during the accident.
