Investigation Summary
At 5:54 p.m. on April 14, 2023, Employee #1 was taking a lunch break with a coworker in the picnic area in the parking lot next to Building #34. At around 5:50 p.m. Employee #1 went to a vehicle to make a telephone call. Employee #1 was speaking with Coworker #1 at around 5:54 p.m., regarding a workplace complaint. While speaking, the phone went silent, then three "gasps for air" were heard. Coworker #1 thought Employee #1 was crying. After receiving no response, Coworker #1 hung up the phone and called back but got no answer. Coworker #1 was concerned and called Coworker #2 to check on the employee. Coworker #2 found Employee #1 in a vehicle at the driver's seat hunched forward over the steering wheel, unresponsive with no pulse. 911 was called. CPR and life saving measures performed. Employee #1 died of natural causes. Employee #1 was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m. and transported to Stanislaus County Coroner.
