Investigation Summary
At 7:30 a.m. on March 7, 2023, an employee working as a day laborer for an electrical contractor was working on a residential structure. The structure was being converted into an office space/materials storage yard. The employee was waiting for a ride and was moving ladders and other items around the property while he waited. The employee's supervisor was the business owner. The employee was working in the fenced yard. The employee was engaged in straightening the yard, but it is not clear that he had been directed to do so. The employer had met the employee at a home improvement store and hired him to do some cleaning around the business property. The employee had done work for the employer on at least two occasions prior to the day of the incident. The employer had instructed the employee to arrive at the site at 8:00 a.m. to be picked up and then drive him to another location to do additional clean-up work. The employee arrived at the property at approximately 6:30 a.m., parked in the parking area, and entered the property through the closed gate. The employee began moving the ladders and copper poles. The employer had 4 dogs on the property. The dogs initially greeted the employee and did not appear aggressive, but at approximately 6:47 a.m., the dogs began barking and getting closer to the employee. The dogs then began to attack the employee and pulled him to the ground. The employee died from multiple dog bites.
