Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee was working as a corrections officer at a state department of corrections medium and minimum security prison with approximately 1,300 inmates. The employee worked at the main entrance in and out of the facility for utility and vendor vehicles. The employee inspected vehicles before and after they left the facility and on occasion escorted drivers while inside the facility. The employee's last day of work was September 28, 2021, and he was experiencing cold-like symptoms. The employee called into work sick the next day and received a positive COVID-19 test result on October 1, 2021. The employee was admitted to the hospital, and he was placed on a ventilator until he died from complications of his COVID-19 infection on November 21, 2021.
