Employee Is Killed When Crushed Between Tractor Trailer And

At 4:45 p.m. on November 10, 2021, an employee was instructing a trainee how to use the Yard Dog (truck) to connect tractor trailers and move them throughout th e yard. The employee was standing on the platform on the tractor portion of a tr actor trailer only to be used in the yard. The tractor has a fifth wheel hitch w ith a platform used as a base that holds the fifth wheel. The employee had exite d the cab and had come out onto the platform as the driver was backing the trail er. Holding on with one hand to the platform, as the the driver was instructed t o back up, the employee was pinned between the rear of the truck and the trailer horizontally. He was unconscious at the time the ambulance arrived. CPR was per formed, and the employee was air-lifted to the trauma center at UT Medical Cente r. The employee was killed.
