Investigation Summary
An employee had been working as a Security Agent for a University Hospital. As part the employee's duties he had potential direct contact with COVID-19 positive patients while responding to disturbance calls, screening patients and visitors and escorting COVID-19 positive or suspect patients from ambulatory services. The employee was last at the worksite on August 13, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m. At or around 8:00 p.m. on August 15, 2021, the employee contacted a coworker (Supervisor) to report he was ill and would not be coming into work the next day. On August 17, 2021, the employee tested positive for COVID-19. On August 20, 2021, the employee was was admitted to the hospital. At 6:13 p.m. on September 10, 2021, the employee died from complications due to COVID-19. It is unknown how the employee contracted COVID-19 or if he even contracted it at the workplace, but the employer did not have Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases policies and procedures in place.
