Investigation Summary
An employee had been working as a traveling nurse. On June 28, 2021, the employee was assigned to work in the emergency room of a community hospital. On August 5, 2021, the employee wanted to cancel his assignment because he thought he contracted COVID-19 from a patient. On August 7, 2021, he worked his last day and began to experience COVID-19 related symptoms. On August 19, 2021, the employee's spouse notified the employer that he was ill with COVID-19 and on August 20, 2021, she notified the employer he was hospitalized an on a ventilator. On September 13, 2021, the employer received information from a workers compensation provider that the employee had died due to COVID-19. The employer did not have Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases policies and procedures in place.
