Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 138058.015
Event: 08/11/2021
Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee was working for a wholesaler of transportation equipment and supplies. He carried out general light maintenance activities on tractor trailers. He worked in the firm's bay area. His last day working at the facility was August 3, 2021. On August 4, 2021, he went to work, but he went home due to the allergy symptoms he was experiencing. On August 7, 2021, he tested positive for COVID-19. He was quarantined from work. During the quarantine time, his health declined in a matter of days. He became weak, he was coughing a lot, and he was unable to eat. On August 11, 2021, he passed out in his chair and looked as if he were falling asleep. His wife called for an ambulance. The employee was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:23 p.m. on August 11, 2021. The paramedic said his death was possibly due to oxygen deprivation or blood clots. He had been in quarantine for eight days. During that time, he had experienced weakness, coughing, and not just a loss of appetite but an inability to eat. He had been hospitalized for conditions related to COVID-19. It was not known where or when the employee had contracted COVID-19.
