Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 135084.015
Event: 12/01/2020
Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

At 7:17 p.m. on December 1, 2020, an employee who performed internet technology (IT) work for a traffic control company died from COVID-19. The employee's typical duties included installing computer hardware and setting up software on evenings and weekends. The employer was moving into a new building and the employee's work was required to setup computer network services before the building was fully staffed. The employee had been feeling ill, but he thought he just had a cold. The employee worked Thanksgiving week and was hospitalized on November 28, 2020. The employee's next of kin reported the employee was tested for COVID-19 on November 18, 2020, and results were returned on November 19, 2020, but this information could not be verified and was brought into doubt later. The employee's brother and father also became ill with COVID-19. Both the brother and father tested positive and were hospitalized and the father also died one day later on December 2, 2020.
