Investigation Summary
At 8:00 p.m. on January 18, 2021, an employee who worked as a Nursing Assistant for a licensed skilled nursing facility was hospitalized with COVID-19 infection. The employee had been providing direct patient care to COVID-19 patients during the week of January 11, 2021. The employee did not respond to multiple requests for an interview, so some details leading up to the exposure are not known. The employee had been required to wear a fit tested N95 as part of the employer's respiratory protection program when working at the facility. The employer conducted an exposure analysis and concluded there was no definitive source of the exposure. Follow-up interviews and document review indicated that the exposure analysis was flawed and was missing several required elements. In addition, the employer did not have Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases policies and procedures in place.
