Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

At 11:45 a.m. on January 4, 2021, an employee who worked for the U.S Navy died from COVID-19. The employee had returned from an assignment on a sea vessel that had travelled to Jacksonville, Florida to provide support to an offshore vessel. On December 1, 2020, the employee and his coworkers left their home port. By December 7, 2020, the employee and several coworkers reported not feeling well. On the vessel there were also contractors present. After the vessel returned to the Pax River, the employee and 10 coworkers were tested for COVID-19. The employee and one other coworker were the only ones that worked for the Department of Defense (DOD). The employee was the only DOD employee hospitalized.
