Investigation Summary
On January 24, 2021, an employee who worked for a new car dealership died from COVID-19. The employee's family member reported the employee's death to the employer on an unspecified date. The date that the employee last worked is not indicated in the narrative, but it is known that on that date the employee called into work around 11:00 a.m. and left a message with the receptionist. The employee worked independently which included working outside washing cars and moving vehicles from one lot to another. The employee was not found to have potentially infected any coworkers. The employer reported a cluster of COVID-19 cases at the dealership but said the employee had not been in close contact with any of the COVID-19 positive coworkers either in his department or at the site. Around the time the employee contracted COVID-19 and up to two weeks prior, there were 2 known COVID-19 positive coworkers. The employer concluded that the employee's infection was likely contracted in the community but did not know if any of his family members were COVID-19 positive. On January 5, 2021, the employee was admitted to hospital, which the employer discovered on January 7, 2021. Information regarding engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls for COVID-19 are not included in the narrative.
