Investigation Summary
At 10:30 a.m. on February 3, 2021, Employee #1, a member of an engineering crew at an automotive manufacturing facility in Fremont, was using a gantry crane to turn over a clamping fixture. While the fixture was being lowered, the employee became concerned that pneumatic hoses attached to the fixture might get pinched. As the employee reached to move the hoses, their finger was pinched by the lowering fixture, resulting in a fingertip amputation. The employee was hospitalized. The employer reported the accident to the Division at approximately 11:45 a.m. that same day. The Division opened an investigation at the accident site on February 4, 2021.
