Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee had worked as a Corrections Officer for a State prison in the Observation Tower. The employee's main duty was to observe and ensure the safety of personnel and inmates in the prison yard. The employee worked the entire shift in the tower which is isolated from coworkers and others. The employee has no need to leave his work area since it is equipped with a toilet and a sink. The employer did not know when the employee tested positive for COVID-19, but the employer was notified of the employee's positive test on December 29, 2020. The employee last worked on December 18, 2020. On January 4, 2021, the employee was hospitalized. At 11:17 a.m. on January 30, 2021, he died. Information regarding engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls for COVID-19 are not included in the narrative.
