Investigation Summary

An employee was working for a volunteer fire department. She was working in a firefighting occupation. On December 28, 2020, she received her first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. On January 3, 2021, while she was at home, she began experiencing the symptoms of a stroke. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance. A COVID-19 test was done at the hospital. The results were positive. The employee was diagnosed in the emergency room (ER) with COVID-related pneumonia in both lungs. The employee was not symptomatic for COVID-19. She was tested when she was taken to the hospital. At 7:15 a.m. on January 4, 2021, she died. The death certificate listed COVID-19 as the cause of death.
