Employee With Covid-19 Infection Is Hospitalized

An employee was working as a respiratory therapist at a hospital and completed h is work shift and went home. The next day, December 24, 2020, the employee began to experience COVID-19 related symptoms including a scratchy throat. The employ ee went to the emergency department and received a COVID-19 nasal swab, flu-swab , and strep swab on December 25, 2020. On the same day, the employee began to ex perience a fever of 102 degrees. The test results for COVID-19, flu, and strep w ere all confirmed to be negative on December 26, 2020. On December 28, 2020, the hospital's employee health department conducted an exposure analysis and did no t identify any employees who had significant exposure to the employee. The emplo yee continued to feel worse with increased symptoms including body aches and dec ided to get tested for COVID-19 at a medical center on December 29, 2020. On Dec ember 30, 2020, the employee reported to his manager that he had received a posi tive COVID-19 test result. On the same day, the employee was monitoring his bloo d oxygen saturation levels and noticed it had dropped to 88 percent and had his spouse take him to the hospital for treatment. The employee was admitted and was hospitalized due to COVID-19 related symptoms, including shortness of breath. T he employee was discharged on January 10, 2021.
