Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a skilled nursing facility. The employee had worked the night shift assisting residents with actives of daily living (ADLs). The employee was involved in providing healthcare to known COVID-19 patients and worked near potentially COVID-19 positive coworkers. The site had a recent outbreak of COVID-19 among employees and residents. The employee began to exhibit symptoms related to COVID-19 and was placed off work on November 26, 2020. The employee was experiencing shortness of breath and breathing difficulty and was tested for COVID-19 on November 24, 2020. On November 27, 2020, the employee received a positive test result. The employee remained in quarantine until she died December 15, 2020. The employer did not have an adequate Respiratory Protection Program in place.
