Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

On November 18, 2020, an employee who worked as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at a senior health and rehabilitation center tested positive for COVID-19. The employee was presumed to have been exposed to COVID-19 during an outbreak amongst staff and residents who were receiving medical care. The employee wore an N-95 respirator during the outbreak but tested positive 7 days later. On November 23, 2020, the employee was admitted to the hospital. On December 10, 2020, the employee died due to complications including acute hypoxic respiratory failure, COVID pneumonia, and pneumothorax. The employer did not have an adequate respiratory protection program in place.
