Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 132045.015
Event: 12/10/2020
Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee was working as a fill-in care provider when she took care of a client by doing light housekeeping and some mobility assistance in the client's home on December 1, 2020. The employee had been called in when one of the two rotating regular care providers for the client was not feeling well. Per employer protocol, the employee self-checked and then checked the client for COVID-19 symptoms. On December 4, 2020, three days after the care, the employee began to feel ill with COVID-19 symptoms. The employee stayed home and went to get tested on December 9, 2020. On December 10, 2020, the employee stopped breathing at home and emergency services were called. The employee was transported to the hospital where she died the same day due to acute respiratory failure from COVID-19 pneumonia. The client and the client's other two care providers were found to be positive for COVID-19 on December 8, 2020.
