Investigation Summary
An employee was working for a janitorial service. His last day of work was December 15, 2020. Three days later, he called in sick because he was experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19 and was going to get tested for it. He was tested on either the 17th or the 18th. His test came back positive on December 20, and he was admitted to the hospital that same day. He died that same day as well. The employer notified OSHA on December 21, 2020, that the employee had died the day before. The employer had no reason to believe that the employee had contracted the disease at work. At the time of the employee's last day of work, nine other employees who had not tested positive for COVID-19 were working at the location. Two weeks prior to the employee's last day of work, one employee at the location had tested positive for COVID-19. Four weeks prior to the employee's last day of work, four employees had tested positive for COVID-19.
