Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee worked as a School Bus Driver or a Bus Assistant (not specified in the narrative) for a Public School District. From August 11, 2020 to December 11, 2020, small cohorts of students with special needs were attending in-class instruction. The buses had one Driver, one Bus Assistant and no more than 3 student per bus spaced at least 6 feet apart from others. All occupants of the bus wore face masks. The employee was not exposed to coworkers who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to his last day of work. December 4, 2020 was the employee's last day of work. On December 6, 2020, the employee notified the employer by email that he was taking the week from December 7, 2020, to December 11, 2020, off from work to self-quarantine due to illness. On December 11, 2020, the employee went to the emergency department (ED) due to fever, cough, body aches and nasal congestion. The employee received a COVID-19 test which was confirmed positive. The employee was not admitted t that time and was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics. On December 13, 2020, the employee notified the employer via email of the positive test result. That was the last communication the employer received from the employee. At 10:00 a.m. on December 14, 2020, the employee's mother notified the employer that he had died due to COVID-19 related issues.
