ELECTRIC SHOCK -- DIRECT CONTACT WITH ENERGIZED EQUIPMENT

AN ELECTRICAL LINEMAN WAS INSTALLING NEW UTILITY POLES. HE WAS APPARENTLY MOVING A PHASE CONDUCTOR FROM AN OLD POLE TO AN ADJACENT NEW POLE. THE EMPLOYEE CONTACTED A 7200-VOLT LINE OR AN ENERGIZED TRANSFORMER BELOW WHERE HE WAS WORKING. HE CONTACTED THE LINE AND WAS SHOCKED BELOW HIS RIGHT ELBOW. THE CURRENT EXITED HIS BODY AT HIS LEFT FOOT ADJACENT TO THE STIRRUP OF HIS CLIMBING SPIKES. THE EMPLOYEE REMAINED CONSCIOUS FOR 5 MINUTES. APPARENTLY, THE GROUND MAN HAD NO EQUIPMENT FOR RESCUE.
