Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

In the afternoon of December 3, 2020, an employee who worked in the Critical Care Department of an ambulatory healthcare organization died from complications related to COVID-19. On November 24, 2020, the employee tested positive. On December 3, 2020, the employee was hospitalized prior to his death. The employer's initial report was that the fatality had been due to a heart attack. The employer provided additional information and confirmed the death was from a heart attack, but that it was related to COVID-19. The date, time and other details leading up to exposure are not indicated in the narrative. The employer did not have an adequate respiratory protection program in place.
