Investigation Summary
An employee began to experience COVID-19 related symptoms while working in the billing department of a hospital. The billing department was housed in an administrative building located across the street from the hospital. On October 15, 2020, the employee tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital on October 20, 2020. The employee's conditions worsened and on October 28, 2020, she was transferred to a medical center. The employee died on October 31, 2020, due to complications related to COVID-19. From approximately October 9, 2020 through October 26, 2020, twelve (12) out of sixteen (16) employees at the facility testing positive for COVID-19. The employer recorded the death as work related. The employer did not have an effective COVID-19 Prevention Program in place.
