Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

At 8:00 a.m. on August 27, 2020, an employee that had worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for a transitional care hospital was hospitalized due to COVID-19. On October 12, 2020, the employee died due to acute respiratory failure with hypoxia associated with COVID-19. The employer provides health care for patients admitted with a variety of ailments. The employee had been providing wound care to patients. The employee was a per-diem employee of a staffing agency. The employee's immediate supervisor was the Nurse Manager for the hospital. The exposure may have occurred while the employee was treating a patient infected with COVID-19 on August 17, 2020. The employer did not have Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases policies and procedures in place.
