Investigation Summary
At 3:00 a.m. on October 13, 2020, Employee #1 was performing media blasting on structural steel at an auto care center to clean and prepare it for coating. After about an hour of blasting, the nozzle became clogged, causing the employee to lose control. During the incident, the employee's left hand slid in front of the blasting nozzle, and pressurized garnet-sand media entered the hand. The employee sustained a high-pressure laceration and abrasion to the left thumb and was hospitalized for treatment.
