Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

Employee # 1 was assigned to perform janitorial work nightly at the store. The supermarket had very few employees at night restocking groceries and other related products. The employer is a janitorial service provider. Employee # 1 worked his full shift on August 5, 2020. He called in in sick the next day. On August 8, 2020, Employee # 1 sought medical aid and was told he was having pneumonia and the employer gave him more time off. On August 13, 2020, Employee # 1's wife informed the employer that he was taken to the hospital and admitted for a breathing complication. On August 14, 2020, Employee # 1 tested positive for COVID-19. On August 30, 2020, Employee # 1's wife informed the employer of his death. His death was due to pneumonia and COVID-19 combined. The incident occurred on August 30, 2020. The employer reported the incident via phone to the Division on September 3, 2020 at approximately 4:42 p.m.
