Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee was working for a city police department. He had been employed with the city police department since 1996. The department employed personnel in various capacities of law enforcement. The employee was a detective in the Youth Services Department, where he worked with juveniles. He mostly worked from home, with some field visits as needed. From July 13 through 16, 2020, he was working from home the week before he began experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. On July 18, 2020, the employee started to feel the symptoms of a COVID-19 infection. In accordance with police department policy, he was to quarantine and get tested for COVID-19. On that same day, July 18, 2020, he was confirmed positive. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to the hospital. On 8:00 a.m. on August 20, 2020, he died at the same hospital from complications of COVID-19. The incident was reported to the American Canyon District Office. A CSHO opened the inspection on August 31, 2020. It was unknown where the employee had contracted the virus. There were no documented cases of COVID-19-positive clients that the employee dealt with in the line of duty.
