Investigation Summary
An employee was working at a nursing care or skilled nursing facility. The employer's human resources office stated that the employee was not a regular employee and that her last day of work was March 14, 2020. The employee was not working at the time she was thought to have contracted COVID-19. Instead, she was visiting and taking care of her father in a convalescent home. On May 1, 2020, she was diagnosed with COVID-19. She was hospitalized from May 1, 2020, thru May 16, 2020. The company was informed that she had died on May 16, 2020. The firm did not consider the death a job-related fatality. According to the firm's facility administrator, the facility did not have a resident with a confirmed case of COVID-19 until April 8, 2020. Over the next six weeks, 32 residents and eight staff employee members out of 99 employees in the facility were diagnosed as COVID-19-positive. Only people in the the East and North Wings were affected. There were six resident deaths and no employee deaths. After this, according to the Center for Medicare Services (CMS) report, the next time a resident diagnosed positive for COVID-19 was on August 2, 2020.
