Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 128495.015
Event: 08/02/2020
Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee worked as a Maintenance Employee for a horse ranch. On July 24, 2020, the employee had been working outdoors cutting grass and performing other tasks related to maintaining the property. Coworkers observed that he appeared sluggish and was having difficulty breathing. The employee mainly worked alone and had not had close contact with any coworkers. Employees were required to wear masks and none of the coworkers were ill. On that same date around 10:00 a.m. The employee's Supervisor instructed him to leave work since he appeared ill and advised him to get checked by a doctor. The following day, the supervisor called and checked on the employee and continued to urge him to see a doctor. At 2:00 p.m. on August 2, 2020, the employee was having difficulty breathing and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Paramedics administered CPR but the employee died at 2:47pm. The employee took a COVID-19 test on August 1, 2020, which returned a negative result. The coroner tested the employee after his death and the test was positive for COVID-19. The date and time and other details leading up to exposure are not known.
