Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

An employee was working as a firefighter paramedic for a large city. The fire department implemented and provided COVID-19 training to all staff on post-exposure procedures, personal health best practices, response standard operating guidance, station and apparatus sanitizing procedures, social distancing while at work, and EMS policies and protocols. The department provided PPE to all staff and enforced its' use. The department provided testing for all staff members and also their family members if requested. The employee requested a COVID-19 test due to possible signs and symptoms. The test confirmed that the employee was positive for COVID-19 on July 11, 2020, and he was sent home for quarantine. The employee checked himself in to the hospital July 16, and died at 5:00 p.m. on July 25, 2020.
