FIRE (DESCRIPTION INCOMPLETE)

EMPLOYEES WORKING ON THE 13TH FLOOR ON 3-2-84 IN THE DATA ENTRY ROOM WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE FIRE IN THE BUILDING (40 EMPLOYEES EXPOSED) A INOPERABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM, INADEQUATE STAIRWELL LIGHTING AND NO BACKUP LIGHTING SYSTEM WAS ENCOUNTERED BY EMPLOYEES IN THIS BUILDING. EMPLOYEES ENCOUNTERED OBSTRUCTIONS IN STAIRWELL AND ON STEPS WHICH CONSISTED OF CONSTRUCTION RENOVATION DEBRIS SUCH AS DIRT, DUST, PIECES OF WOOD, SHEET ROCKCLUTTERED ALL OVER WITH A 3" BY 4" PIECE OF PLYWOOD OR SHEETROCK WAS HUNG ACROSSONE OF THE LANDINGS BLOCKING 80% OF THE EMPLOYEES EXIT PATH A 3' LONG 2" BY 4" MATERIAL HAD BEEN JUTTED OUT INTO THE WALKWAY. NUMEROUS OPENINGS OF VARIOUS SIZES COULD HAVE DETOURED THE EMPLOYEES EXIT AT ANY NUMBER OF POINTS WHEN THEY WERE GETTING OUT OF THIS BUILDING DURING THE FIRE.
