Investigation Summary
At 12:16 p.m. on May 13, 2020, three employees providing direct care to patients at a medical center were reported hospitalized due to COVID-19 infection. Employee #1 (Physician) was hospitalized for 11 days starting May 24, 2020. Employee #1 was exposed to a positive COVID-19 patient while performing patient care duties on April 18, 2020, and received a medical evaluation on April 24, 2020. The employee was placed on precautionary quarantine on April 21, 2020, after which time his symptomes worsened and he was hospitalized on May 4, 2020, and discharged May 12, 2020. Employee #1 was initially tasked to only assess and work with non-COVID-19 positive patients but worked with a positive patient on the day of exposure. Employee #2 was hospitalized for at least 5 days starting July 12, 2020, after being exposed while performing nursing direct patient care duties. Employee #3 contracted COVID-19 while working in close quarters performing nursing direct patient care duties duties with coworkers. This employee was hospitalized from October 23, 2020 to October 26, 2020. Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases and respiraory protection policies and procedures were not in place.
