Investigation Summary
At 10:00 a.m. on September 4, 2019, an employee was driving a delivery truck and delivering packages on his route when he started to have trouble breathing and felt weak. At about 12:30 p.m., the employee contacted his employer via a computer module and was told to call in. The employee called the employer and reported trouble breathing, vomiting, coughing, and a possible panic attack. The employer asked the employee what he wanted to do and he responded that he would keep working. The employer told employee to take a break and sent two coworkers to check on him while on his route. The coworkers met with the employee and asked if he was okay, if he needed medical attention, and offered to cover the route for him. The employee declined assistance. The employee finished the route and then drove himself to the hospital at about 7:30 p.m. The peak temperature that day was 93-94 degrees Fahrenheit at 12:00pm. The employee was diagnosed with acute kidney injury and dehydration due to lack of sufficient drinking water. The employee was admitted to the hospital at about 8:09 p.m. until about 3:07 a.m. on September 5, 2019.
