Investigation Summary
At 12:00 p.m. on July 16, 2019, Employee #1 was walking towards a previously felled tree stump while a coworker was transporting two trees with a John Deere 460D Timberjack Skidder. During transport the trees made contact with a standing dead tree that was 42 feet long with a 10 inch diameter, that was adjacent to the skidder path. When the trees in transport made contact with the standing dead tree, it fell perpendicular to the harvested trees. Just as the tree fell, Employee #1 walked into the path of the falling tree and was stuck in the head and neck area. Employee #1 was wearing a Husqvarna hard hat, ear protection, chaps, safety boots, and eye protection. Employee #1 sustained a fracture of the thoracic vertebral column with displacement and spinal cord transection, and was killed.
