Investigation Summary
At 11:15 a.m. on July 10, 2018, an employee was holding two stacked 2 by 4's and was pushing them to be cut by the Whirlwind Model 212 cut-off saw when his glov ed left hand was caught in some staples left over in the wood. The employee pre ssed the foot pedal, triggering the operation of the chop saw and the metal guar ding clamp came down on his left hand. The employee's hand was amputated when s truck by the saw's blade. He was hospitalized at UCI medical center, where surg eon's reattached his hand.
